Introduction to content description aggregation service for sharing home media contents

Content metadata play a significant role assisting users to find and locate desired content, and UPnP Forum has defined how to retrieve metadata objects with CDS service description. However, since UPnP is based on a peer-to-peer network, only metadata objects from one specific device can be shown with single UPnP action. This paper proposes a UPnP standard service for aggregating contents metadata in a home network. The proposed service enables a UPnP Control Point to find or locate desired content anywhere on UPnP network with one single UPnP action. The proposed service architecture and profile are presented here, and also compatibility with conventional CDS service is described.
