Abstract
Summary form only given. It has been shown that by judicious control of energy levels and wave functions one cannot only tailor the wavelength over a wide spectral range but also design the scattering rates and dipole matrix elements to improve the gain, thus lowering the threshold currents. In this paper, we present a complementary investigation that addresses the injector design and, more specifically, the phenomena controlling the electron injection into the active region.
