  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Microchip lasers are very compact and very simple diode-pumped solid-state lasers. They have a monolithic cavity with mirrors directly deposited on the laser material. They exhibit excellent spectral and spatial beam properties, i.e., TEM/sub 00/ single-frequency laser emission. Because of their very good characteristics, 240 gain-switched Nd:LiYF/sub 4/ microchip lasers producing 1053 nm radiation with a single frequency operation, linearly polarized beam, 100-ns pulse width with a peak power of several watts will be used in the French Laser Megajoule (LMJ) optical pulse generation system.
