  • Abstract
The paper presents the development and evaluation of fault location algorithm in series compensated lines using SCU (Series Compensation Unit) and TCSC (Thyristor controlled series capacitor). Firstly, SCU is considered at the center of the transmission line and the algorithm is based on the voltage and current measurement at both ends of the transmission network and also accurately estimates the location of the fault and fault resistance. Secondly paper presents the solution to the problems regards to the practical issues concerning fault distance estimation with TCSC located in the middle of the line. For the evaluation a realistic system is modeled using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The results prove the efficacy of the algorithm for accurate fault location under various fault conditions. Also the results show that the algorithm performance, tested in TCSC system proves to be more accurate.
