Abstract :
This paper studies the control strategies of hybrid wind diesel-battery energy storage for grid-isolated system (GIS). A voltage source converter (VSC) based distributed energy resources (DERs) with modified control technique known as p-q theory is adapted to provide power quality conditioning support and to perform other desired tasks. The control of frequency and AC voltage at PCC (Point of Common Coupling) depends on real and imaginary power balance between DERs and the loads. The power is injected or consumed from the battery using VSC as an interface. The battery is also used to feed loads during low wind speed operation; to improve the efficiency of the installation, and to reduce the power delivered by a diesel engine. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified using MATLAB/SIMULINK based simulated results for various operating conditions.
