Abstract
Outcomes of the self-contained spiral FCG based high voltage source testing and development are presented. The source is designed around spiral FCG with 50 mm diameter and 26 mm liner made out of aluminum alloy. The liner is filled by HE cylindrical pucks fabricated by hot casting with further stamping. Spiral FCG is seeded by the magnetic field, created by a gas opening switch and further discharge of 0.8 uF / 6kV capacitor. FCG output drives the power sharpening stage, based on the explosive opening switch. This stage is connected to the pulsed transformer primary coil through the gas switch. The transformer charges low-inductive 500 kV high voltage capacitor. Basic source operational characteristics: output pulsed voltage up to 500 kV, pulse length no higher than 2 us, energy in pulse 450-500J. Diameter is 143 mm and length is 700 mm.
