Abstract
Summary form only given. We have demonstrated self-starting passively mode-locked Nd:LiYF/sub 4/ at 1313 nm and 1321 nm and Nd:YVO/sub 4/ at 1342 nm using semiconductor saturable absorbers. Pulses as short as 4.6-ps durations were achieved with Nd:YVO/sub 4/ and 5.7 ps with Nd:LiYF/sub 4/. Passive mode locking was achieved using either a high-finesse or low-finesse antiresonant Fabry-Perot saturable absorber design.
