Abstract
Summary form only given. Our studies reveal that cells made of high-grade fused silica containing Zn:tetra(p-methoxyphenyl) tetrabenzporphyrin (TBP) in solution in tetrahydrofuran (THF) have a very high damage threshold fluence close to that of the bare fused silica. Other materials, such as Si:naphthalocyanine, in toluene exhibit considerably lower damage thresholds. For this reason, and because of the large nonlinear absorption of TBP, we chose this combination of materials to fabricate a tandem nonlinear optical limiter using TBP.
