Abstract :
Summary form only given. Second-order nonlinearities have prompted a great deal of interest because of the possibility of generating large nonlinear phase shifts as a result of cascaded processes. Realising that in SHG both the conversion efficiency and the nonlinear phase are important in the process leads to a variety of other phenomena. Experiments were performed in a quasi phase matched proton exchanged LiNbO/sub 3/ waveguide.
