Abstract
This paper critically reviews certain aspects of the simulation of telecommunication networks. In particular we consider simulation software, the use of high-speed simulation techniques using parallel simulation and the incorporation of artificial intelligence in simulation models. The paper concludes by considering likely future developments in simulation environments including the incorporation of simulation modelling tools as an integral part of the overall network management strategy
