    Summary form only given. Apart from very specific cases, phase matching requirements prevent high yield in nonlinear optical up or downconversion when using optical pulses with large bandwidth. This is particularly true in the UV domain where the nonlinear materials are very dispersive. This topic is particularly crucial for ultrashort pulses but also for the upconversion in the UV of the broadband near-infrared nanosecond laser pulses. We propose a new method of efficient frequency addition using phase manipulation, which is the continuation of the angular spectral dispersion scheme but using two separate input waves. Basically, instead of transverse spatial angular deflection, we consider longitudinal (i.e., temporal) deflection. This is achieved by using phase-modulated incident pulses.
