Abstract
In Nobakhti and Munro (2003) the reduced structure controller design problem was proposed and some tools were presented to (partially-)solve this problem. The tools were applied to some real life examples with some very impressive results achieved in Nobakhti and Munro (2003). However, the approaches proposed were limiting and cumbersome, in that, not only they consisted of a two-stage design process, but being analytical, required heavy involvement from the designer. The approach proposed here uses evolutionary algorithms to set up a one stage design problem within which critical constraints such as and including stability may be addressed
