Abstract
We consider decoding orthogonal space-time block codes without channel state information at the receiver. We use the inherent structure of these codes and adapt the sphere decoding method previously used under perfect channel knowledge to efficiently detect transmitted symbols. The resulting performance is within 1.5 dB from that of coherent detection and the proposed method has low complexity in medium and high SNR regions
