Abstract
This paper presents a generalization of the conventional notion of well-posedness. Input consistency and output uniqueness of the closed-loop system in the standard 2times2 block problem are discussed. Based on this, two notions of well-posedness, namely complete well-posedness and external well-posedness are determined. The links between these separate notions are explored. The approach also leads to a generalized version of the linear fractional transformation
