Abstract :
Summary form only given. A new class of practical electro-optical (EO) devices based on poled interfaces has been enabled by recently developed lithographically-defined poling process for ferroelectric materials. The new planar poling processes provide the geometrical control required for practical devices. For example, a guided-wave beam deflector has been fabricated in LiTaO/sub 3/ with a thermal gradient poling process.
