  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Potassium titanyl arsenate (KTA) has the advantage of enhanced transparency in the mid-infrared region (3 /spl mu/m) over KTP, which is the well established material for up-converting 1-/spl mu/m laser radiation into the 1.5-/spl mu/m region. Although parametric oscillation in KTP at 3.26 /spl mu/m has been demonstrated: the absorption of the idler wavelength is critical in high-repetition-rate KTP/KTA optical parametric oscillators (OPOs). We have compared the performance, spectral characteristics, and transparency at 3.44 /spl mu/m for extra-cavity KTP and KTA OPOs.
