Abstract :
Summary form only given. When chromium is doped into Y/sub 3/AlO/sub 12/ (YAG), it substitutes for aluminium and normally occupies octahedral sites as Cr/sup 3+/. However, the active center giving 1.35-1.6-/spl mu/m emission is Cr. Therefore, obtaining high concentrations of Cr and to therefore improve the NIR absorption, Cr/sup 4+/+ is the key to grow Cr-doped YAG crystals. Cr:YAG, Cr,Mg:YAG and Cr,Ca:YAG crystals were grown by the CZ method with various Cr and Ca concentrations.
