Abstract :
Summary form only given. In this work, we present detailed saturation measurements of a sample of Cr/sup 4+/:YAG (obtained from Union Carbide) using pulses from a Nd:YAG laser at 1.06 /spl mu/m wavelength. As well as measuring the saturable transmission as a function of the fluence and polarization orientation of a saturating optical field, we also monitor the transmission of a weak probe pulse whose polarization can be varied independently of the strong pump pulse.
