  • Abstract
Summary form only given. In conclusion, the photodestruction of germanium O/sub 2/ deficient centres (GODC) in optical fibres by near-UV direct excitation of GODC triplet-state was observed. The new mechanism of GODC transformation from excited-triplet-state to drawing induced defect (DID) was experimentally demonstrated. This mechanism gives the explanation of the discrepancy in blue luminescence change and index-change dynamics.
