  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is often applied in a laser oscillator or laser amplifier, which is used as a phase-conjugation mirror to improve the laser beam quality or as a compressor to short the laser pulsewidth. Recently, many researches have been focusing on two-cell stimulated Brillouin scattering. It is shown that high phase-conjugation fidelity and high reflectivity of stimulated Brillouin scattering can be obtained by using two-cell geometry. Another advantage of stimulated Brillouin scattering is reported here. A two-cell stimulated Brillouin scattering is used as a phase-conjugation mirror as well as a laser pulsewidth controller. It is easy to continuously change the pulsewidth of a laser output only by moving the position of Brillouin generation cell (one of the two Brillouin cells).
