Abstract :
The scattering of a plane electromagnetic wave incident on a metallic structure consisting of a half-plane with a metallic strip of constant width b attached to its edge and oriented perpendicular to the half-plane is considered, in the frequency domain. Rather than introducing a high-frequency technique such as the UTD, we analyze the problem in terms of the closed-form, exact scattering by a half-plane whereby the total field is expressed in terms of Fresnel integrals. This formulation implicitly accounts for the corner-reflector effects, but does not account for the interactions between the edge of the strip and the right-angle corner/wedge. The analysis conducted for the 2D case is extended to the 3D case of a semi-infinite strip of finite width with a right-angle bend, by utilizing a technique due to Siegel. The 3D result thus obtained is compared to the physical optics result.
