Abstract
Summary form only given. We report on the performance of transversely diode-pumped Yb:phosphate glasses at room temperature. A high slope efficiency has been achieved by pumping at 975 nm corresponding to a quantum defect of only 7%. We present results obtained with a diode side-pumping arrangement. Laser emission was demonstrated in the range from 1025 nm to 1060 nm with spectral widths of 1.0 to 3.0 nm (FWHM).
