Abstract :
Summary form only given. Future long-haul high-bit-rate transmission systems based on short-pulse transmission (e.g. soliton transmission) may require a return-to-zero (RZ) signal format. We have carried out an all-optical NRZ-to-RZ format conversion by using a walkoff balanced nonlinear fiber-loop mirror (WBNFLM). In this presentation, the reverse process an alloptical RZ-to-NRZ format conversion using the (WBNFLM) is demonstrated. The principle used is the same as the switching mechanism of the WBNFLM with a cw probe beam.
