Abstract
Advantages, disadvantages, and areas of concern regarding the use of a permanent magnet to provide the magnetic bias field for YIG tuned oscillators are discussed. Two different types of permanent-magnet YIG tuned oscillators with a temperature variation of less than 15 PPM/ degrees C were constructed. The measured characteristics of some of these devices are presented. The permanent magnets, when stabilized, show no deterioration of strength due to aging or repeated electrical and mechanical demagnetization.<>
