Abstract
Summary form only given. We investigated the fabrication of optical planar waveguides in KTiOAsO/sub 4/ (KTA) using the ion exchange process that has been investigated previously for fabrication of other waveguides. KTA substrates were polished on the -z face, and subjected to ion exchange by immersing them in a molten mixture of RbNO/sub 3/ (92% molar concentration) and Ba(NO/sub 3/)/sub 2/ (8% molar concentration) at 350 C.
