Abstract :
The feasibility of modeling compact range performance using the FDTD (finite difference time domain) method is discussed. The advantages of the FDTD method, such as excitation waveform, material, and geometric generality are considered. The limitations, including staircasing errors (which can be reduced or eliminated at the expense of increased computation) and a maximum computation frequency based on computer resource limitations, are also discussed. An example of the resolution that can be obtained using 864,000 FDTD cells (suitable for workstation computations) to model a compact range in two dimensions is presented
