Abstract
Presents a software package, TechCheck, that can be used by a developer of protocols of local area networks to evaluate error checking algorithms. The objective of TechCheck is to test variations of error checking algorithms that are to be implemented in protocols of computer networks. The user can utilize TechCheck to obtain an independent assessment of error-checking algorithms that may be part of a new protocol. The developer of a new protocol can use TechCheck to load a record containing a sample of typical data packets that will be used by the protocol. In this way, the algorithms can be evaluated for these data. After the testing is complete, the user can save information about the check and the data with the appended check bytes to disk for future reference. TechCheck is modular and expandable. Other error checking algorithms of interest can be easily added
