Abstract
Practical design methods for implementing an optimized fiber-optic data link are presented. In addition, the risetime and falltime budgets of the associated components and the overall frequency response of the fiber-optic data link are discussed. All these parameters are discussed with reference to the length of the data link. This will enable designers to optimize the data link designs to suit their particular applications. A limiting factor in the usage of the fiber-optic technology is the fiber-optic busing schemes where the optical energy needs to be tapped. The feasibility of such fiber-optic busing schemes is examined
