Abstract :
The author discusses technology transfer as a design tool for leveraging resources and reducing cost in system design. The aim of the author is to provide designers with an idea of how to use the technology transfer process to design better systems and products. It is established that technology transfer is the use of ideas or knowledge. Any knowledge or idea that is used for a specific application is technology transfer. Secondly, the author discusses the motivation for using technology transfer as a design tool and provides examples from different areas to show how it might be used. Next, he discusses design considerations, including some successful processes for technology transfer, the requirement for specifying a well-defined need, timing the technology transfer in the design cycle, and overcoming barriers in the process. Finally, he provides examples of sources which the design might use to locate technology
