Abstract
An overview is given of current research on databases for nonconventional applications, such as computer-aided design (CAD) for mechanical engineering applications, as well as for very large scale integration (VLSI), geographical databases, and computer-aided software engineering (CASE). Systems such as ORION, ONTOS (successor of VBase), GemStone, and the Knowledge Data Model (KDM) are discussed. The survey was necessitated by the plans to augment the existing implementation of KDM with version management and transaction management for concurrent transactions
