  • Abstract
The purpose of this program was to refine the design of existing CW, I/J band TWTs with respect to efficiency, weight, size and reliability. These objectives were achieved with a PPM-focused, 4-section, conduction-cooled helix tube. The 4-stage depressed collector, which is of the asymmetric, hyperbolic field type, requires 3 external voltages different from cathode potential. The following test results were obtained over an octave frequency band: Power Output = 200 to 240 Watts Base Tube Efficiency 13 to 15% Tube Efficiency = 37 to 39.5% Collector Efficiency 79.5 to 84%
