Abstract :
A hybrid GaAs MESFET amplifier and a newly developed single-mode laser form a driver-modulator capable of delivering 1 ns pulses at 500 Mb/s data rate with 1-2 mW peak power coupled into a single-mode fiber. Pulse rise and fall time is 300 ps, limited by available measuring equipment.
