Abstract :
A tunable, long pulse klystron to be used for the lower hybrid heating of the plasma in the thermo-nuclear fusion experiments was successfully developed. The klystron was designed to deliver 1 MW output power in 10 second duration throughout the frequency range from 1.7 to 2.3 GHz. The output power of 1 MW in 10 second full duration pulses was demonstrated at 1.8 GHz and 2.0 GHz. Saturated output power of 1.3 MW under the short pulse operation was also confirmed throughout the frequency from 1.7 GHz to 2.3 GHz with the efficiency as high as 50 %.
