Abstract
A 100 GHz gyrotron oscillator is described which was designed for 500 kW pulses. It features a complex cavity of large volume in both sections and a single anode magnetron injection gun. Investigation of mode competition in this megawatt-relevant cavity will determine whether future high power/high frequency gyrotron development can continue with TEOn waveguide modes or must pursue non-symmetric, whispering gallery mode interaction.
