Abstract
Summary form only given. Interferometric measurements of a phase displacement in one arm of a Mach Zehnder interferometer can be performed below the shot noise level if squeezed light is injected into the unused "vacuum" port of the interferometer. The probe light is homodyne detected by a balanced detector with use of a local oscillator with the proper phase relative to the squeezed radiation.
