Abstract :
The essential design features are presented for a gyroklystron amplifier capable of delivering 400 kilowatts of microwave power with 100% duty at 34.5 GHz to be used in a proposed upgraded radar facility in the NASA Deep Space Communications Network. The amplifier is to have a minimum bandwidth of 0.1% (1 dB points), saturated gain of at least 40 dB, an electronic efficiency of 40%, and operate in the TE11circularly polarized mode.
