Abstract
Summary form only given. Nonlinear optical properties of giant molecules are of great interest for both fundamental nonlinear optics and application of these materials in optoelectronic devices. It is already well-known that C/sub 60/ molecules possess a strong SHG although it is forbidden by symmetry in electric dipole approximation. The reason of this strong SHG is electron delocalization giving rise to electric-quadrupole and magnetic dipole contributions. Modification of C/sub 60/ molecules by adding dipole-active "tails" can increase the asymmetry of electron delocalization resulting in SHG enhancement. In this paper we report the results of experimental studies of C/sub 60/ and C/sub 60/-CN modified Langmuir Blodgett films by SHG and hyper Rayleigh scattering (HRS).
