Abstract
High power klystrons operating in the 300-600 MHz frequency range, used in science for particle accelerators, have the drawback of being bulky and requiring very high voltages. Since klystron dimensions grow far less rapidly than the power they can deliver, one could propose to employ tubes of 4 to 5 MW each when total power requirements are of several tens of MW. But a more compact and flexible solution is offered in the form of the multi-beam klystron (MBK), an N-beam tube that still uses 4 or 5 cavities. Such an MBK would grant a reduction in both weight and high voltages used.
