Abstract :
A two-dimensional numerical finite-difference method, taking into account the magnetic nonlinearity of the rotor steel, is used to calculate the magnetic field, eddy currents, and losses induced in the solid rotor of a turbogenerator running on steady unbalanced load. The effect of varying some of the design parameters is examined, and ways of reducing the total loss in the rotor by changing the distribution of the nonmagnetic wedges and the wedge material are outlined.
