Abstract
Harmonic distortion due to the combined effects of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and polarization dependent loss (PDL) was investigated experimentally and theoretically. Analytical expressions for the RF levels were obtained and experimentally verified. The interferometric nature of the phenomenon gives rise to distortion levels more than 20 dB higher than formerly predicted
