  • Abstract
Resolution enhancement of an image from a sequence of digital images is possible only if aliasing effects are present. We address the issue of detecting presence of aliasing within a digital image sequence. Given two digital images of the same scene with sub-pixel relative translation between them, we examine the absolute difference between the interpolated versions of these images. If the two images contain no aliasing effects, the difference between them will be random, solely due to noise. If aliasing is present, the difference between the two interpolated images will be highly correlated to the high-frequency elements of each interpolated image. An algorithm for the detection of the presence of aliasing based on this phenomenon is proposed. This algorithm is also able to estimate the extent of aliasing
