Abstract
In this paper metamaterial based dual band rectangular microstrip patch antenna for mobile GSM and Wi-Max application is presented. The antenna structure consists of quarter wave microstrip line fed rectangular radiating element and 2D array of Moore Split Ring Resonators (MSRRs) based magneto dielectric material placed right under the patch. Proposed antenna exhibits 2% and 4% impedance band width at 1.8 GHz mobile GSM band and 3.5 GHz Wi-Max band respectively around their centre frequency and shows 200% wider impedance band width at higher band compare to conventional FR4 antenna. A miniaturization of 40% and 60% are achieved in radiating patch and ground plane respectively with respect to FR4 antenna.
