Abstract
The main building blocks of adaptive PMD compensators, the equalizer, the eye monitor for feedback signal generation, and the distortion tracking and adaptation logic for equalizer control will be reviewed with regard to system implementation. Equalizer units based on optical, optoelectronic, and electrical compensation schemes are discussed.
