Abstract
We demonstrate the use of a nonlinear-canceller decision circuit to ameliorate the effects of polarization-mode dispersion. This integrated circuit adapts the receiver decision threshold to the intersymbol interference arising from previous bits. It is capable of reducing an infinite penalty to a 3 dB penalty.
