Abstract
High-speed time division multi-access (TDMA) optical communication systems will be necessary to meet the growing need for bandwidth-on-demand services in local and metropolitan area networks. Recently, many of the technological building blocks necessary to implement such a network have been demonstrated in research laboratories. In this paper, we will review progress towards the realization of TDMA communications systems.
