Abstract :
The Biometric recognition is an important parameter used for human identification and verification as there is increase of crime rate due to lack of security. The most widely used Biometrics are Fingerprint and Iris which are prone to errors mainly due to falsification. This paves the way for a need of novel Biometric Recognition. In this paper, a new approach for authentication is done using Electrocardiography (ECG) and compared with well proven Fingerprint and Iris is proposed. The algorithm is tested on all the three modalities, various performance parameters are computed. The False Rejection Rate (FRR) and False Acceptance Rate (FAR) are computed to determine the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. It is found that certainly ECG can be used for authentication in environments where there less importance for security. However, it is suggested to use ECG with either Fingerprint or Iris as additional authentication which can increase the efficiency. It is emphasized and advisable to use ECG as authenticating tool as it is fool proof.
