Abstract :
This paper deals with the design of a special type of digital IIR filters. These filters have complex coefficients and are designed to operate in the transient mode. The designed filters are suitable for differentiating between approaching and receding radar targets and rejecting clutter. The optimisation criteria is to approximate an ideal filter response while processing only a finite number of samples. Zero frequency initialisation is used as a predesign technique to enhance the clutter rejection capabilities of the complex filter
