Abstract
In this paper, first a novel capacitor-switched active snubber for single-module bidirectional buck-boost converter is developed. The snubber concept is then extended to two-module interleaved bidirectional buck-boost converter. It is shown that the proposed snubber designs allow the main switches to operate at switching frequencies considerably higher than the limit for hard-switching operation, leading to smaller-size inductors and thus lower overall weight, without compromising efficiency. It is also shown that at a fixed switching frequency, the efficiency can be considerably improved by using the proposed snubber design. Analytical expectations have been verified by experimental results.
