Abstract :
In this paper is presented a novel capacitor voltage balancing algorithm for Modular Multilevel Converter. The problem in the Modular Multilevel Converter is that the DC-BUS voltage doesn´t distribute equally between the capacitors producing voltages unbalances. These voltages unbalances are produced by multiple factors such asymmetries, modulation or by circulating current and influence the correctly operation of the power converter. If these voltages unbalances are not controlled, the DC-BUS voltage ripple increases. In addition, the converter may destabilize up to the point of failure so it should turn off.
