Abstract :
The development and implementation of electronically-controlled vehicle systems has rapidly increased, particularly motor management, antilock brake systems (ABS), traction control (TRC) systems, airbags, belt-pretensioners and electronically-controlled transmissions. The author discusses the need to inspect these electronics systems both internally and externally. The author discusses: on-board-diagnosis in combination with external diagnosis concerning safety and emissions; the expansion of periodical tests; and standardised external diagnostics for the periodical tests
